Tangier 22 Nov. 62.

My dear Mr. Andersen,

As Lady Hay is a little indisposed she has deputed me to reply to your welcome letter from Seville. - We were very much pleased to hear of your progress through Spain and were delighted to learn that you could look back without regret to your short visit to this Barbarous land. - We are your debtors for having afforded us all so much pleasure and we shall often recall the memorable visit of the Danish Poet. - I hope you arrived in good health at Madrid, though I fear you will find the Spanish capital a cold residence in this season. Our wet weather has at last set in.

My sister Mrs. Norderling and her daughter arrived by the same vessel in which you departed. - This has lessened a little the dulness of our life here. - We lately received letters from Denmark in which much enquiry was made about you. - The papers announce the arrival of the Princess Alexandra in England and there are long accounts of her beauty and character. Her virtues appear to excel even her comeliness - and all my countrymen unite in welcoming the Dane.

My wife requests you to tell Mr. Collin that she was about to write to say the net could not be found when his second letter arrived. I hope he has made a good collection of reptiles in traversing Spain. If he ever thinks of revisiting Africa he will always be a welcome guest here. - We all unite in kindest regards to yourself and Mr. Collin. I have read your interesting tales and the children have devoured them. Believe me,

Yours very sincerely,

John H. Drummond Hay
