Gammel Strand, No. 31. July 23rd, 1872.
Dear Mr. Andersen,
Will you do me the honour to accept my likeness, in return for the one of yourself which you have so kindly given me, and which I shall always value? I cannot tell you what a delight it has been to me to see and speak with you; when I was a little child, and first began to love your writings, I used to wonder whether I should ever see yourself. I shall tell your friends in England that you have promised to come to see us again, and I know that they will hope, as I do, that it may be soon.
With kind regards, believe me to be,
yours very sincerely,
Edmund W. Gosse.
