Copenhagen July 12 1848
I arrived here the day before yesterday from Funen where I have been staying for several weeks, and very near the seat of war, on my arrival I found both cases, with Jenny Lind's and my own bust, which one of our sculptors has unpacked for me, they came perfectly safe and have pleased all my friends to see. I press your hand in most grateful acknowledgement!
The exhibition of works of art is now closed for the season here; the peoples' minds have not been much directed that way, but next Spring both your works of art will appear in the exhibition.
/ I write only these few words to day, as poor thanks, I will however soon take the permission to send you my new novel in English, which will be published by Mr Bentley - and before that time you shall have a longer letter from me.
All the Danish artists in Rome will each give a work of art, for the benefit of the widows and children of Danish soldiers that have fallen in battle, the well known sculptor Jerichau, has written to me about it, they think of having an exhibition of their work and sort of lottery in London, towards which I have already take some steps, you shall however soon hear further about it; meantime be pleased to give my best respects to our dear Friend Mr. Jerdan, and accept the same from yours sincerly Friend
Hans Christian Andersen
My compliment to Mr Ainsworth!
