An Agreement made this Thirteenth day of October 1848 between Herr Hans Christian Andersen of Copenhagen of the one part and Richard Bentley, Publisher of 8 New Burlington Street London, of the other part.

The said Herr Hans Christian Andersen having placed in the hands of the said Richard Bentley a work in English entitled "The Two Baronesses" forming two volumes post 800 of the usual number of paper hereby gives to dispose of and the said Richard Bentley hereby agrees to purchase the copyright of the said work on the terms and conditions herein after stated - namely -

The said Richard Bentley agrees to pay Herr Hans Christian Andersen Two Hundred Pounds in his promissory note at six months' date, receipt of what is hereby acknowledged, for the right to/ print and publish an Edition of the said work to consist of the thousand copies.

Should the said Richard Bentley succeed in selling this edition and be minded to reprint the work in the same form, he shall pay the said Herr Hans Christian Andersen the sum of Fifty Pounds in his promissory note at six months' date, and on the sale of the whole of this second edition a further sum of Fifty Pounds in his promissory note at six months' date. Making in all Three Hundred Pounds.

Should the said Richard Bentley not be minded to reprint the said work in its original form, but should reprint it in his cheap collection of Standard Novels, he shall pay to the said Herr Hans Christian Andersen the sum of Fifty Pounds in his promissory note at six months' date /making in all Two Hundred and Fifty Pounds
