54 Charlotte St., Portland Place, London.
My dear Sir,
I have been hoping since a long time to get a letter from you - Indeed I thought to have had the great pleasure of seeing you in London. Mr. Jerdan told me the other day he expected you wouldcome, and as well as myself sincerely wished that nothing might have happened to cause you to defer your journey.
Would you do me the favor to let me know whether I might hope to receive a story from your pen which has not yet been published, for the little book I wrote to you about in my last, and which is to appear at Christmas next.
Excuse my troubling you, my dear Sir, but as the time is short, I am obliged to do so.
Very faithfully, Yours,
