It is assumed that Hans Christian Andersen was born in the house at the corner of Hans Jensens Stræde and Bangs Boder, the house which now makes up the core of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. In this house lived three families, among them some relatives of Andersen's mother. But whether this really is the birthplace remains uncertain. Andersen himself categorically rejected the idea. On the other hand the childhood home in Munkemøllestræde, where Andersen lived from 1807 till the spring of 1819, is quite authentic.
