Travels

- All in all Hans Christian Andersen made 29 journeys abroad (however, his journey to England and Scotland in 1847 was continued as a European tour. It is debatable whether that should be counted as one complete tour or two. If counted as two journeys, the total number is 30). Even more uncertain is the number of trips within Denmark. For what is a trip within the boundaries of Denmark? And what one would not call a trip today, was one then, due to the character of the means of the communication and the time and bother involved, whereas today we would rather call it an outing. But if one counts everything, Andersen during his life went on  87 trips and larger excursions within Denmark.

The Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense has a comprehensive online database containing information about HCA's travels abroad – maps, information about cities/towns, hotels, transportation and contacts.
