Hans Christian Andersen - Memorial meeting of the Libral Club - Eulogies on the Great Poet.

The meeting of the Liberal Club last evening was more than usually intersting. The life and character of Hans Christian Anderrsen, the great Danish story-teller, was the subject of a peaper read by Mr. I.K. H. Wilcox, followed by several Danish Gentlemen; Mr. Ormsby, Gen. Christiansen, Dr. Vanderweyde, Henry Evans, William Dudley Folke, Stephen Pearl Andrews, and D.T. Gardner: Andersen had fused together the two spirits of aristocracy and democracy which they were all praying for. He was the beloved friend of the poor and the honored friend of monarchs, while Shakespeare always scoffed at the poor and courted the favor of the aristocracy. The New York Times August 14 1875.
